Our vein specialists follow a streamlined 5-step vein diagnosis and treatment process
Our vein specialists in New Jersey follow a comprehensive, streamlined, and straightforward vein treatment process. We always diagnose and treat the root cause of your vein problems rather than simply removing the superficial varicose veins and spider veins. Our considered approach to vein care ensures optimal results with no harsh side effects, complications, or downtime. Furthermore, we only provide minimally invasive vein treatments because they’re safer and more effective than surgical procedures.
Step 1: Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation, the vein doctor examines your leg veins, reviews your medical history, and discusses your symptoms. The vein doctor will look for signs and symptoms of vein disease in order to curate the right vein treatment plan. Furthermore, the initial consultation also aims to understand your concerns and lifestyle, so we can proceed with the treatment accordingly.
Step 2: Vascular Imaging
After the initial consultation, the vein doctor performs an ultrasound diagnostic scan, known as duplex ultrasound, to visualize the blood flow in your leg veins. Chronic venous insufficiency causes blood to flow backward and accumulate in the leg veins. As such, if you have vein disease, the vein doctor will notice backward blood circulation through vascular imaging, revealing chronic venous insufficiency.
Step 3: Primary Treatment
If you have vein disease, your vein treatment plan will start with radiofrequency ablation, endovenous laser ablation, or venaseal. These procedures involve using thermal energy, laser energy, or medical adhesives to collapse or seal the diseased vein’s walls. The diseased vein gets absorbed by the body, rerouting the accumulated blood into healthier leg veins.
Step 4: Cosmetic Treatment
If you don’t have vein disease (or after the primary vein treatment), the vein doctor recommends ambulatory phlebectomy or sclerotherapy. Phlebectomy involves the physical extraction of varicose veins through small incisions on the skin’s surface. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a sclerosant solution into the spider veins, turning them into hardened scar tissues eventually absorbed by the body.
Step 5: Recovery & Aftercare
Minimally invasive spider vein and varicose vein treatments usually conclude within an hour, following which the vein doctor will discuss your recovery guidelines. You have to wear compression stockings for a few weeks and avoid heavy lifting, but you can resume most of your daily activities immediately. Most of our patients seek vein treatments during their work lunch break.
